Lincoln Beachey (1887 to 1915) became the first airmail pilot to deliver mail for Fort Smith on Nov. 4, 1911. Flying a Curtiss Pusher, he departed League Park (near today's Kay Rodgers Park) and dropped a bag of mail on the lawn near the Rogers Avenue post office minutes later. It was the second air mail delivery ever in the United States.
