In the latter part of the 1930s, the Wildcat Mountain Sanitorium was established as an adjunct to the Arkansas Tuberculosis Sanitorium in Booneville. The first patients arrived on March 26, 1937, and the facility soon reached capacity. They generally were "far advanced" in suffering from the disease and the patient to staff ratio was 1/1. The sanitorium closed on Dec. 1, 1958.
