On the morning of September 2nd, 1945, just two weeks after accepting the Allies terms, Japan formally surrendered to the Allied powers. The ceremonies, which took less than half an hour, were held on board the battleship USS Missouri, which was anchored with other United States' and British ships in Tokyo Bay.
